Curator’s Note

On January 31, 2024, Mark Zuckerberg stood before the Senate Judiciary Committee and turned to address the gallery of parents whose children had been harmed on Meta platforms. The moment was photographed by fourteen news agencies. This oil painting, executed in a Dutch chiaroscuro manner, takes as its source a composite of those photographs. The senators behind the figure are rendered in successively lower detail toward the edges of the canvas, dissolving into hatched shadow. The gallery of parents is not depicted.
